Organic Loops are proud to present Rare Woodwind! From the mountains of South America to the deserts of North Africa and the valleys of Eastern Europe to the plains of North America comes this vast collection of enchanting and unique sounds, encompassing traditional and modern musical influences, and using an exotic array of flutes, pipes and woodwind instruments from across the globe!
Performed by Max Gittings and recorded and produced by Michael Tedstone, the team behind the popular Chinese Woodwind Loopmasters pack, this collection contains a huge array of samples, loops, one shots and impacts recorded on a bewildering variety of rarely used woodwind instruments, such as the Mizwad from Tunisia, the Fujara from Slovakia and the Toyos from Bolivia.
Recorded using Akg414 XLII’s, AKG414 XLS and both the renowned Neve 1073SPX and Neve Libra console.
The instruments that were used for this collection are listed below:
Siku (Zampona) : Two-row Panpipes from the peoples of the South American Andes (found principally in Bolivia, Chile, Peru and Ecuador). Notable for their breathy atmospheric tone, and used here to provide rhythmic and groovy loops drawing both from the traditional music of the region and more modern up- tempo influences.
Nai : In many ways the classic Panpipes, distinctive for their structure of a curved row of Pipes and having a very emotive timbre when played, these come from Romania and lend themselves to lyrical melodic vibes....think Ennio Morricone meets the soundtrack to Kill Bill!
Toyos : Bass Panpipes (over a metre long!!) and also from the Andes. Heard a thousand times over on a multitude of Hollywood films where breathy and mysterious attack-notes provide a constant rhythm and atmosphere of suspense.
Mizwad Hornpipe : A simple folk instrument (literally a Pipe with a Horn at the end!) from Tunisia that’s related to Bagpipes of the same name, and brings that piercing timbre with it whilst using Middle Eastern modes, ornaments and scales.
Low Whistle : A bit closer to home but just as evocative.... the classic large metal or wooden whistle from the Irish and Scottish folk music traditions, with a beautiful low register tone and melodic playing that’s full of slides and accents.
Low Bamboo flute : A deep member of the Indian Bansuri-flute family is used here with a haunting low pitch and distinctive ornaments and note bends.
Fujara : A traditional shepherds’ flute from the hills and valleys of Slovakia, the instrument stands at over four feet tall. From ethereal low register melodies to dense harmonic laden whooshes and rhythmic staccato, it creates a sound like no other.
Native American Flute : A classic from the global tradition but rarely used these days, this instrument of the indigenous peoples of North America has a striking but unique Flute-like timbre that conveys a stark and plaintive melodic beauty.
Tilinko (overtone) Flute: Using the harmonic series to overblow, this is basically just a pipe with no fingers holes from Hungary, and has a simple but distinctive high register tone and melodic capability.
Bass Flute : Used here like the Fujara and the Tilinko, the sonorous Bass member of the orchestra Flute family is also used to play up and down the harmonic series both rhythmically and melodically.
Loops included play between 80-130bpm, making this collection perfect for world music, downtempo, ambient, chillout, trip-hop, hip-hop, house and more!
