Ghost Syndicate continues its sonic explorations of the dark force with a new volume, Waves, a true ode to disused urban areas on the decline. The style used to represent them will be stamped as grime, dubstep or deep trap – the terrible children of bass music. The guided tour of these No Man's Lands is a pure success for groove-hungry composers, with its powerful, pumping samples. The melodic parts of the pack remain less convincing, but Waves offers up rhythm sections and basslines that we could complete with the hashtag #danstaface. High-calibre stuff indeed.
